Panic changes decision making. Families are often terrified watching someone actively decline, so they do what all of us have been conditioned to do in a crisis: Call 911. But hospice and 911 are built for very different goals. This isn’t about blaming families. It’s about helping people understand why these situations happen so often and why education around the dying process matters so much.
